Italy is one of the many countries that haven't got a list of best selling albums of all time. The purpose of this topic, is to gather the albums that sold at least 1 million copies in Italy according to reliable sources and try to do estimations if we have got enough material.

NOTE 1: According to a Billboard number from December 1989, "The Dark Side of the Moon" sold 1 million copies in Italy until 1989. According to M&D year-end 2003, the album sold also 100,000 copies only in 2003 and according to FIMI certifications, sold over 150,000 copies from January 2009 to June 2015. We haven't got the total sales for this album, but we have proof that it sold at least 1,250,000 copies.
NOTE 2: According to L'Espresso (Edizioni 8-12 - Pagina 117), "Buon compleanno Elvis" sold 1,150,000 copies in Italy. It's not written when the album reached this goal, but being the article of 2005, we can say that reached the goal before the launch of the FIMI certifications. According to the latter, "Buon compleanno Elvis" sold 25,000 copies from January 2009 until January 2015. So, we can say that this album sold at least 1,175,000 copies in Italy.
NOTE 3: According to La Repubblica "1" sold over 1 million copies in Italy until 2001. Between 2001 and 2009 we haven't got information sales, but we know that the album was certified Platinum by FIMI in the end of December 2013, for having sold over 60,000 copies since January 2009 until December 2013. For this reason, we can say that "1" sold at least 1,060,000 copies.
NOTE 4: On May 2006, "Su e giù da un palco" was certified 10 times Platinum by Warner Music Italy for the sale of 1 million copies in Italy. In the end of December 2013, the album was certified Platinum by FIMI for having sold 60,000 copies since January 2009 until December 2013. We haven't got the total sales for this album, but we have proof that it sold at least 1,060,000 copies.
NOTE 5: According to M&D year-end 1992, "Greatest Hits II" by Queen sold 1 million copies in Italy until December 1992. We don't know how many copies sold between December 1992 and 2008, but we know that on December 2014, the album was certified Gold by FIMI for having sold 25,000 copies between January 2009 and December 2014. So, we can say that "Greatest Hits II" sold at least 1,025,000 copies in Italy.

Yes, they are from old year end charts. It is all information provided by a member of UKmix (John2000). All of those sales (which you can find on UKmix, especially of the first three pages of the Italian topic) come from either M & D or similar sources. Check the first few pages of the 'NEW italian certification' thread.
I see that Antonello Venditti was already there, and that million total is listed in the 1991/1992 ranking I have just shared.
I think Queen's "Greatest Hits II" has to be added in here. Otherwise I don't see point in including albums by other acts (such as Michael Jackson's "Bad") whose totals were taken from press articles.
"Greatest Hits II" was a massive success in Italy. I can post its weekly chart positions if you want.. -
